Battle of pride and honour

Battle of Pride and Honour A true story(written by ATP)

1/5 Gorkha Rifles

It was an honour from C/O commanding officer requesting me to prepare their cadets for the upcoming tournament Mountain Division Cup ” Battle of Pride & Honour”

It used to take twenty five minutes of ride on my royal beast to reach out there from my home, excluding the time of verification on the check points everyday. Even though all the defence personnel were familiar with me but still entering the premise would be very much difficult for civilians.

5:00 a.m: Neat and clean roads covered with green pastures surrounded by tall trees.  Synchronization of boots tapping on the ground with full of energy the cadets shouting “Ek do Ek” marching like an ants would silence the Royal Enfield engine when they pass nearby.

Out of thousand of cadets from Alpha, Bravo, Charlie & Delta barracks 21 boys were already selected for the tournament.

When I asked them why do you prefer football ?

The answer they gave was heart touching. “This is a matter of pride & honour among the Indian Army. We prepare for two years for this day to keep our pride of regiment but we have never won as our competitors are better. If we win this tournament then C/O would extend our holidays upto one month so that we can be back with our families”.

What if you loose?

” If we loose then we have to carry loads of 15-20 kg on the back and the rifle 3.5 kg and keep running on the road more than the training period and leave too will be cancelled”.

What you expect from me?

” We have heard lots about you and your training  and we expected to win this tournament.
